SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Communications and New Media celebrated the launch of shepTV, a new student-run television station on campus.

The official launch party, held on April 8, highlighted the station as a hands-on learning lab for broadcast and digital media students.

Dr. Jason McKahan, professor in the Department of Contemporary Art, Communications, and Theater, said shepTV serves as a working newsroom, production house, and learning lab available to all students.

“Students will gain real-world experience in producing, reporting, editing, and managing television content. This will be hands-on broadcast media training that prepares students for real professional careers — regardless of their major.”

As an independent PEG (Public, Educational, and Governmental) channel, shepTV is not an official part of Shepherd University; however, the station serves both the campus and the broader Jefferson County community.

Programming produced for the 24-hour station will be created solely by Shepherd students, with the guidance of faculty advisors and industry professionals.

shepTV broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is available online and through Comcast / Xfinity in Jefferson County.
